Global warming fears become reality, as inhabited islands are lost to rising seas in the Bay of Bengal. Yes, Virginia, many factors are involved, but global warming IS one of them.The island of Lohachara, once home to 10,000 people, vanished beneath the waves recently, with only a satellite as witness. Rising seas, erosion, flooding, storms, and subsidence were all involved. Global warming is a likely cause in some or all of these threats to low-lying islands.
I suppose we could deny and debate for a few more years or decades. Or, we could get serious about solutions. Global warming IS an ocean issue.
