Not satisfied with 49 acres of artificial reefs made from old junk, New York wants to expand to 825 acres by putting old subway cars and navy ships on the ocean bottom. It's a great idea, but the road to ...well ruin can be paved with good intentions. Artifical reefs can be a good idea, if designed with the right goals in mind. But we know only too well that poorly designed reefs can become a huge cleanup nightmare.
Subway cars, debris and old ships seem like materials of opportunity rather than a real attempt to make a nice reef. Will they help fish? Likely not, when the stated purpose is to attract fish for people to catch.

If they roll down the windows though, the fish can go inside. Little fish can pretend play navy warship battles and subway operators, just so long as those guns are ammo-free!
