You've been hearing about the rise of slime and ocean decline here on blogfish. The LA Times has put together an incredible effort to describe the current state of our oceans, on the web and in their print edition.It's a five part series in the paper, starting today with "Runoff from modern life is feeding an explosion of primitive organisms. This "rise of slime," as it's called by one scientist, is killing larger species and sickening people."
Yikes. What shall we do?

Um, how about we stop: washing cars in the street; mowing riparian 'lawns' all the way to the water's edge; leaving dog poos lying around, cutting down shady riparian trees; altering natural flow regimes; and warming the planet?
