Awkward teen white sharks

You know them, you knew them, maybe you were them.  Awkward teens that can't seem to get anything right.

It's true for white sharks too...those scary monsters of the deep have trouble biting prey when they're teens. So when they're little, say 9 feet long, great white sharks aren't really so great.  Teen white sharks have weak jaws that are prone to damage if they bite big prey.

Take heart, human teens, you're not alone.  Even scary predators have awkward teen years.

Flipper is a fraud!

Who's old enough to remember that cute and helpful dolphin Flipper from the TV series? Certainly not me. Anyway, I've seen the show somehow, like maybe before I was born, and Flipper always killed the bad shark that was menacing the good kids of the show. Here's a video to prove it.



News from Ya Like Da says that Flipper was a fraud, and dolphins don't really do this when sharks are chasing little boys. Damn, another cherished myth busted.

Now please pardon me while I go worship a sports hero like say...Tiger Woods or Roger Clemens.

Ocean smackdown: great white shark vs. giant squid

Ocean battles are the stuff of legend, dating back to the time when seafarers worried about mythical monsters out in the unknown ocean. But here's an amazing new struggle: scientists think great white sharks migrate thousands of miles so they can dive deep and battle with giant squid.

Asked about this suggestion, a great white shark (above left) declined to comment, but then said: "what happens in the deep Pacific stays in the deep Pacific."

Tigers vs. white sharks?

Who would win? No, not a cage match, in the contest of who's more endangered.

In this year of the tiger, it's time to put the ocean's tigers (white sharks) in the spotlight too.

Most people think tigers are rare, what if I told you that there are more tigers in the world than great white sharks?

Some fisheries scientists now think there are fewer great white sharks than the 3200 tigers left in the wild.

Maybe it's time to elevate the concern for great white sharks, from their current "vulnerable" status to the "endangered" or "critically endangered" status awarded to tigers by the IUCN.
