You know those birds you see wading in shallow water at the ocean's shore? The ones that are everywhere. Well, look again, they're not everywhere these days. At least not in Australia, where shore birds are in trouble. Agriculture and industrial development are claiming shore habitats that used to provide resting and feeding areas for shorebirds. Lacking habitat, the shorebirds are in serious decline. Treaties to protect migratory birds have proven ineffective and stronger measure are needed.
I guess it's bad luck to crave the beach, unless you have pockets full of money to buy your place at the shore. Tweet
